Seriously man. What's wrong with us? I think everyone in IBP is doing too much work. I'm writing this post before I leave for school.
You know when we came into IBP, we thought we would had nothing to do? And in the end we had SHITLOADS of work to do!
Now is the period where our internship ends and everyone is handing up their final report. Initially when I started my final report like just now in the night around 10pm, I thought I would finish fast. But in the end, I ONLY FINISHED IT AT 5AM!
The question is, did I slack during this period of time? Answer is NO! But then why would I take so long to finish my final report? Let me explain to you:
10-12pm - Typing the main pages 12-1am - Compiling Appendix (That's what I've imagined) 1-2am - STILL COMPILING 2-5am - STILLLLLLLLLLLLL COMPILINGGGGGGGGGGG
It's only till the end of the sem, when I look back at all the documents I did, then I knew how much of work I did. Seriously man wtf? My main pages plus 1/4 of my Appendix already looks like a freaking Oxford Dictionary. AND I STILL HAVE 3/4 TO PRINT! I think my final report is gonna end up in hundreds.
Seriously, I think during these 6 months there is a MAJOR "something wrong" with us. |

Yeah. Shut up and let me go. I'm 20 today. Man, it's been a slow year and a more 'turtle' year to come. I've been talking to various people and about what I'm gonna do after this. The answer to it? DON'T KNOW! Hmmm, for the plan now, i think i will just go out with my friends on Sat and Sun and have fun for my birthday first! :P
I guess NS is definitely to come first. But I guess I will work first. I think, even with my GPA is hard to get to anywhere. I'm thinking of Australia, but well we'll see.
My only hope now is to end school, LIKE SOON. Cause I think the gear is down and I'm no longer motivated anymore. Well I would still try my best at the stuff I'm doing now, but like I said, we'll see. (It's no good to be a nice nice guy)
But on the good side, I got to know something more yesterday! I was flipping the channels while waiting for my dinner to be served and I saw this show, Victoria's Secret Fashion Show 2008.
Apparently, I thought it was a fashion show. But to my surprise, it was a lingerie fashion show. Well i guess it's still kinda cool cause I got to know that there are some lingerie in this world that cost USD$5 million. I was like wow, fancy buying such a lingerie for my future girlfriend. I think I would need to be Donald Trump Jr. II, sitting down there in the show as one of the judges saying "charge that bra to my account".
The only thing I think that was kinda funny and lame but yet elegant is that there was a few models that came out in peacock suits. I was thinking if my wife were to wear such a peacock lingerie one day at home, I think I would stop eating bird-related meat from then on.

The Runway of Models. One of them is DAMN GORGEOUS!

The black one in the middle, I think that's the USD$5 million bra.

We all have seen the country identity, Uniquely Singapore. Some wonder, "what is the meaning behind it?" or "where did it came from?". Don't be surprise! Cause there is actually a REASON behind this tagline!
Have you ever wondered how 'singaporean' are you? Don't know the answer? Well then grab the opportunity to test it out yourself! Below shows 10 traits of Singaporean and the scenario. Just look at the 10 traits and judge how many scenarios are applicable to you:
Trait 1: Singaporeans loves engaging in sex talks in the public
Scenario: You know how in TVs, PM Lee is always encouraging us in free speech? Well Singporeans are responding to that WELL! When i was on my way home and on the train, there was a couple who were standing in front of me. This was their conversation:
Guy: Can we have sex tonight? Girl: Why? Despo ah? (laughs) Guy: Got the need what.. Girl: (Giggles) Don't want la, i want big ones. Guy: Mine big what! Girl: How big? This big? (points her pinky finger out) Guy: No, this big. (extends from her pinky with 2 of his index fingers)
And they got off the MRT, well kinda guessable what happened next? =)
Trait 2: All Singaporeans are eligible for acting awards in Oscar Scenario: And who says that acting are niched? You can spot talents anywhere! All Singaporeans can act well! Just take a look. The government created priority seats for elderly, pregnant women and people with kids, labeling it with a different colour. There are even campaigns to promote courtesy for it. But Singaporeans are just too talented. Right after they get a glimpse of an elderly who is going to board the train, they immediately go to sleep. And they even cue their own snoring sound effects! How professional is that?
Trait 3: The Public Jukebox Scenario: The latest trend, people playing their music off their handphones in public, regardless good music or trash music. Well who needs Zouk tickets now? Hop onto the train and you can party right on the spot with some ahlian ahbeng trance/techno music!
Trait 4: Short tempered
Scenario: We all say at all times, Singaporeans have to right to swear and curse. Why? Because Singapore is a stressful society. Think that's subjective? Well take a step back and try to remember the previous time you sweared just because the MRT admission gates doesn't open for you and gives some techie error to you. Just my way out, there were already 2 of such people. =)
Trait 5: Entrenched "CHOP!" culture
Scenario: Seen those irritating people who 'chop' their places with tissue paper packs? The trend is everywhere! Similarly, on the train, it was around 10pm. Once the doors were opened, you see those menacing eyes scanning around the area, searching for possible seat targets. Once they have locked on to it. You see people running for it. That's basic. The person i saw today threw his tissue pack and shouted "CHOP!" before running for it and even fell down.
Trait 6: Anywhere works for Singaporeans!
Scenario: Different waiting areas are created for different purposes. Bus stops for buses, taxis stands for taxis. These are made for the sake of order. Well, Singaporeans are proven to be street smart! I was waiting at the bus stops for my bus where i saw someone looking out for the vehicles coming by. Normally you would think that they are waiting for buses too. But noooooo! Yup, they were waiting for taxis! Standing at the drive-in bay for buses, people were waiving for taxis because they know that it's easier for the taxis to stop!
Ironically, there was a taxi stand right next to the bus stop and people ended up boarding the buses at the taxi stand because of the amount of people getting on taxis at the drive-in bay for buses!
Trait 7: Pushing is the X factor
Scenario: You know, when it is the peak hour and all, buses are usually more packed and some unintended pushing is kinda expected. But 'unintended' is not in Singaporeans' dictionary! Same, when i was boarding the bus, i was trying to board it orderly. I kinda expected some pushing but what if while you are waiting people to move towards the back of the bus, someone is just trying to push you to move? And it is not because of people pushing behind him, but his own intention to push you to move WHEN YOU CANNOT MOVE AT ALL? Haha, i guess i was kinda pissed off, but i thought it was quite funny. =D
Trait 8: The Patting superstition
Scenario: I think most of you have seen it before? On the bus? With some elderly patting on the bus seats? From what i heard, the older generation believes that patting the seat before seating reduces the heat that is generated from the previous passenger. They seemingly to have been popular amongst the older generations. But the younger generation are doing it as well! I saw it!
Trait 9: Never say, sorry?
Scenario: Energizer came up with "Never Say Die". And we have the singapore tweaked version! You can prolly expect to be stepped on your foot, the person glance at you, and pretends nothing happened.
Trait 10: AA (Attract Attention)
Scenario: The most 'in' thing to do, is to AA. Singaporeans has proven their creativity past these years starting from their appearance. Now? Facta Non Verba, Deeds Not Words. Singaporeans now can even try to pretend to call someone or button smashing to sms someone even though they aren't even sending or calling anything. Which is quite funny!
If you have gotten AT LEAST 2 of these scenarios that happened to you, be assured that you are officially 'uniquely singapore'-an.
I think girls with PDAs are sexy!
P.S. I'm so not going to ever wear those berms again!

What's right and what's wrong? Nothing, even though there are variations of measurements.
Just look at how love has taken up 7 pages of our dictionary, but yet, blinded us from the truth. Think about "love". Has it always been around us? Or in us? Is it existent? Or is it resistant? What is existence of love and what is resistant of love?
This came across my mind when i was gazing into the sky, under the rain moments ago.
Today, i heard another sad story of relationship "love". And also, when i was waiting at the traffic lights, an old lady fell down and people passing across her did not helped her and furthermore, not even glancing her. As i was helping the old lady to stand up and cross the road. It just seems that the sky told me, "Was that love"?
I think that even though the government had made efforts to boost relationships between each other like neighbours, elderly or even races, it is still not reflecting amongst Singaporeans.
Heartless? I think not. The blame is on the competitive society. We humans originates as primal beasts, instinctively knowing the law of the nature, "the fittest survives".
How many times do you see Singaporeans do care and respect other people than their own kins and friends? Do you often see people thanking the aunties and uncles in canteens and hawker centres for their hard work? And how about lending even loose changes to strangers on the bus who don't have any change? And like i was telling Gen just now, how many people actually appreciates others like bus drivers greeting you "Good Morning and welcome to SBS Transit"?
Let's talk about social norms. Yes, abiding the rules of the norms, we shouldn't do what i said above just now. But isn't life about stepping out of the boundary box? I do believe that such actions are definitely not red-taped so possibly, we are resilient to it.
Hence, people are discovering that we DO twirl around such boundary boxes and are taking actions to break it. Look at the 'friend for hug' campaign that caused a commotion sometime ago. Isn't life that simple and beautiful? Just a hug and we feel that we do exist and so do others around us.
Singapore really needs such campaigns to be going on to break this resilient ice of ours.
Well, i think that was quite an emo entry. But i think i might just start to care the people around me from now on. |

What if the tv station sets up a programme that is dedicated to teach the values of being "earth friendly" with saving electricity as an aim to teach families? Ain't that angelic?
But what if the participant says that he bought a electricity saving camera when travelling with his family and the host of the show says that "but you are using the hotel's electricity right? so what does this gotta do with your family's electricity saving?"
Beats their programme's purpose right? Well look out for this funny scenario in your very own channels! |
